Customizing curtains for your space can elevate the aesthetics and functionality of your room. Whether you're looking to cover an entire wall or just the window, here's a comprehensive guide to help you order the perfect curtains tailored to your needs.
1. Deciding on the Curtain Width
Covering the Entire Wall
If you want your curtains to cover your wall from floor to ceiling, the width of your curtains should be equal to the width of your wall.
Mount Within the Window
For a mount within the window, the curtain width should match the width of your window.
Covering Just the Window
If you prefer to cover only the window without extending to the entire wall, your curtain width should be your window width plus an additional X inches on each side where the rod extends beyond the window frame. We recommend adding 12 inches to the window width (6 inches on each side) to create a more spacious look.
2. Single Panel or Split Panels
Single Panel
For a single panel, use the full width measurement as determined above.
Split Panels
For split panels, divide the width measurement by two and order two panels of that width.
3. Choosing the Curtain Length
Ceiling Mount
If you have a ceiling mount curtain rod or track and want the curtains to touch the floor, the length of your curtains should match the length of your wall.
Side-Mounted Rod
For a side-mounted rod, measure from the rod or track to the floor. Depending on the header style, adjust accordingly:
- Pleated Hanging Header: Measure from the rod ring eyelet or track runner eyelet to the floor.
- Grommet Heading: Measure from the top of the rod to the floor and add 0.8 inches for the curtain to extend beyond the rod.
You can also choose to have your curtains puddle on the floor by adding an extra 1 or 2 inches, or have them slightly above the floor for a different look.
4. Selecting Your Drape Hanging Header
We offer two styles of drape hanging headers:
- Double Pinch Pleat: We hand-pinched the drapes and account for the extra fabric width, so you only need to provide the panel width.
- Grommet Header Style: We take fullness into consideration, and you just need to provide the finished width.
